Sony FX3 Full Frame Cinema Camera

The Sony FX3 is a compact full-frame cinema camera for documentary, music video, gimbal and B-camera work. Rent it from Viva Camera Rentals at 777 The Queensway in Etobicoke, Toronto. It goes out rigged in a SmallRig cage with the XLR handle, so add an E-mount lens and it is ready for set.

What's included

• Sony FX3 body
• SmallRig full cage
• Sony XLR handle (detachable)
• 2 x 256GB V90 SD cards
• 2 Sony NP-FZ100 batteries and a charger
• Lens port cap

Not included: lens, ND filters, CFexpress Type A cards, external recorder.

Good to know

• No built-in ND filters. Outdoors or at wide apertures, add a variable ND or a matte box with ND.
• Media. It records to the included V90 SD cards, or to CFexpress Type A cards if you add them.
• Raw. 16-bit Raw goes out over HDMI to an external recorder, which is not in the kit.
• Gimbals. The body weighs 715 g with battery and media (Sony spec). DJI rates the RS 4 Pro for 4.5 kg, so it carries the FX3 with a lens.

Key specs

• Full-frame 12.1MP back-illuminated sensor with 15+ stops of dynamic range (Sony spec)
• UHD 4K up to 120fps; 1080p up to 240fps
• 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording (XAVC S-I, XAVC HS and XAVC S)
• S-Log3, S-Cinetone and HLG
• Two XLR/TRS inputs on the XLR handle, up to 4 channels of 24-bit audio (Sony spec)
• Sony E-mount, with 5-axis in-body stabilization

Before you book

COI and a deposit are standard for FX-line and DJI Ronin 4D bookings.

Pairs well with

• Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II Lens (Sony E Mount), a fast all-round zoom
• Tilta Mirage Pro Matte Box VND Kit, for the ND the camera does not have
• DJI RS 4 Pro Gimbal Stabilizer
