Tripod choice runs on three variables: payload (head counterbalance range vs your fully built rig weight), bowl size (75mm for mirrorless and small cinema, 100mm for heavier cinema bodies, Mitchell mount for jib bases), and leg material (carbon fiber for fast deploy and run-and-gun, aluminum for static studio and budget builds). Drag is calibrated separately for pan and tilt on the better heads, so a slow pan stays smooth even when the tilt drag is set tight. Counterbalance steps let you balance a built-out rig so the camera stays put when you let go of the handle, no head creep on a tilted shot.

What's included in each kit

Most tripod systems ship as a complete head-plus-legs package with the bowl matched and the spreader included. A few items rent as legs only or head only so you can pair with what you already own. Quick release plates ship with the head. Tell us the camera and lens at the booking step and we will spec the build before pickup.

Common questions

What payload do I need for my camera build?
Match the head's counterbalance range to your fully built rig (camera, lens, monitor, follow focus, batteries). The Sachtler Ace XL handles up to 17.6 lb, comfortable for a Sony FX3 or FX6 with a prime and on-camera monitor. The Manfrotto 509HD goes to 29 lb, fine for an FX9 or built-out cinema rig. The Tilta CT12 cine fluid head covers 2.2 to 26.5 lb. For RED V-Raptor or Komodo-X with full accessory load, step up to a 100mm bowl system.
75mm or 100mm bowl: which one do I need?
75mm bowls fit lighter mirrorless and small cinema rigs (Sony FX3, FX6, BMPCC). 100mm bowls fit heavier cinema bodies (RED V-Raptor, FX9, ARRI Alexa Mini) where the larger ball gives a more stable counterbalance and finer leveling under heavier loads. Both bowl sizes are stocked, and most of our heads ship with the bowl-and-spreader matched. Mitchell mount is for the heaviest builds and jib bases.
Do you rent fluid heads and legs separately?
Yes. The Sachtler Flowtech 100 ships as legs only ($50/day) for crews who already own a head, and the Manfrotto 509HD ships as a head only ($50/day) for crews who already own legs. Most other systems ship as a complete head-plus-legs package. Tell us your build at the booking step and we will confirm the right pairing.
What's a hi-hat for and when do I need one?
A hi-hat is a low-profile floor mount that lets you put the camera 6 inches off the ground for low-angle and floor-level shots. We carry the 75mm bowl Hi-Hat ($10/day) for compatible fluid heads, and a heavy-duty Mitchell-mount Hi-Hat ($40/day) for cinema builds and jib bases. Common use cases: tabletop, automotive driving plates, wheel-level dolly tracking, dramatic low-angle character work.
Carbon fiber or aluminum legs for run-and-gun?
Carbon fiber (Sachtler Flowtech 75, Flowtech 100, Tilta CT12) is lighter on the shoulder and faster to deploy with magnetic leg locks or one-touch extensions. Aluminum (Sachtler Ace XL, Benro A673TM) is heavier but takes abuse better on rough location work and costs less per day. For a 1-day documentary or ENG shoot with a lot of repositioning, carbon fiber pays for itself in setup speed. For a static studio interview, aluminum is fine.
Do you deliver tripods across the GTA?
Yes. Pickup at 777 The Queensway is the standard, and we deliver across the GTA for an additional fee. You will get a delivery quote at the booking step based on your shoot location.
